Online travel agent Zuji Singapore, together with credit-card company Mastercard, presented a $30,000 cheque to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (SPMF) chairman Warren Fernandez yesterday, during an event held at indoor skydiving attraction iFly Singapore on Sentosa.

But the two firms also had extra surprises in store.

Two families under the SPMF programme received all-expenses-paid trips, one to Hong Kong and the other to Taiwan. Four other families were also given a gift of overnight stays at Resorts World Sentosa. “We believe that the joy of travel is for everyone,” said Zuji Singapore CEO Chua Hui Wan.

SPMF beneficiary Suriyan, 11, who also got a chance to try out the iFly facility, was excited about visiting Disneyland in Hong Kong, calling it a dream come true. “I hope that my mother, who has been working so hard, can finally take a break with this trip.”

The SPMF is a registered charity run by The Straits Times. It supports about 14,000 children and youth from low-income families annually. Since it was set up in 2000, the fund has disbursed almost $50 million and helped more than 130,000 youngsters.
