Golf event raises $450k for ChildAid

More than 100 senior managers and partners of banking group Citi teed off and raised over $450,000 for charity yesterday.

The money was raised for the annual ChildAid charity concert - to be staged on Nov 18 and 19 at Resorts World Sentosa - which will benefit children supported by The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund and the Business Times Budding Artists Fund (BTBAF).

The first fund gives students a monthly allowance for school-related expenses; the latter helps young people pay for lessons in the arts.

The money was raised at a charity golf event held by Citi's information technology groups and from donations from Citi's partners.

Mr Paul McCarroll, head of Citi Technology Infrastructure, said: "We are heartened that our IT partners share our support for the two funds, so that children from financially disadvantaged families can pursue their artistic passions, and focus on their studies in school without worrying about their next meal or the bus ride home."

Representatives of Citi presented a cheque yesterday to Business Times editor Alvin Tay and The Straits Times' schools editor Serene Goh. Both co-chair the Child- Aid organising committee.

Mr Tay, who is also chairman of the BTBAF, said: "We are thankful to Citibank for the steadfast support given to ChildAid over the years. Citi has helped us to level up the playing field for children and youth from low-income families."

Citi's annual golf event has raised more than $2.6 million for Child- Aid over the past five years.
