To commemorate its 45th anniversary, local bakery chain Bengawan Solo donated $100,000 to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (STSPMF). Mrs Anastasia Liew (centre), the company's managing director, presented a mock cheque to Straits Times associate editor (news) and STSPMF board trustee Karamjit Kaur at Bengawan Solo's anniversary dinner at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, on Oct 2. With them onstage was Mr Henry Liew, director of Bengawan Solo.
STSPMF is a charity that provides pocket money to children from low-income families. It has helped more than 220,000 children and youth since its inception in 2000.
Bengawan Solo also donated $100,000 each to Nanyang Technological University for a Bengawan Solo Term Scholarship, the National University of Singapore's Ong Chit Chung Memorial Scholarship, and Singapore Management University's Wee Kim Wee Heritage Fund.
